Custom DR Report Development

Overview

Acmeware provides custom report development using the MEDITECH™ Data Repository (DR) and the latest report design and distribution technologies to create solutions that bring knowledge to decision-makers. The DR’s Microsoft® SQL Server relational database contains virtually all healthcare data captured within a MEDITECH system. However, data in the DR is structured in a complex, convoluted manner reflecting the business rules and logic of the parent application from which the data was derived. Acmeware’s expertise in the DR’s database design and data schema provides the foundation on which our report development services are based.
Acmeware developed DR-based reports are tailored to the specific needs of our clients. We work with the technologies in use at our clients’ sites and provide all source code as well as clear documentation of solutions provided. Reporting solutions span departmental reporting, decision support analysis, retrospective examinations, performance measures, and much more. There are many advantages to developing reports in a DR environment over a traditional report writing solution. These include:

Speed

The SQL Server database is designed for rapid retrieval and analysis of data. Acmeware’s experience designing indexes, using temporary tables, and pre-compiling data into marts further reduces the time required to generate reports. These strategies make output from DR-based reports available in seconds allowing for web-based deployment of virtually any reporting solution. An example of a report requiring intensive computational analysis, and one difficult to create using other means, is the Average Census by Hour-of-Day report displayed below.

Isolation from Live Environment

The DR environment is fully isolated from MEDITECH application databases allowing reports to be written that do not adversely impact the performance of application users. There is no need for Acmeware to schedule the generation of DR-based reports to occur at off-peak hours.

Excellent Development Tools

The Microsoft SQL Server application includes a report development component -- Reporting Services (SRS). SRS is a powerful report development and management application that allows healthcare reports to be presented in a meaningful fashion and to be efficiently distributed by the Web or e-mail. Also available from Microsoft is SQL Server Analysis Services offering On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) of DR data. OLAP reports provide a conduit to mine healthcare data looking for trends and outliers as well as forecasting future business measures. Business Objects Crystal Reports product suite offers another alternative as a powerful, flexible, cost effective solution for DR report development and distribution.
