Background

Novant Health UVA Health System Culpeper Medical Center serves the greater Culpeper, Virginia community and surrounding areas. The campus in is home to a 70-bed, community hospital, Family Birth Center and 24/7 emergency department, and is complemented by additional outpatient services in other northern VA towns, as well as the Novant Health UVA Health System Haymarket Medical Center. Culpeper Medical Center is a longtime MEDITECH MAGIC customer.

Situation

Culpeper Medical Center sought to increase operational efficiency, reduce operating costs, and enhance comparison reporting with other hospitals in the Novant system (which use Epic) by targeting financial and clinical data to be compared across disparate EHR’s. The goal was to accomplish this through the development and automation of data export packages.

Assessment

Culpeper has been an Acmeware Partnership Program client since 2004, and a OneView Hospital Quality Reporting customer since 2017. When Culpeper determined they needed outside assistance to develop the desired data export packages and logic, they turned to Acmeware who evaluated the various data integration specifications and facility’s needs from a data compatibility perspective.

Results

Acmeware built several data export projects, extracting data from Culpeper’s Magic 5.67 system to feed a range of financial and clinical vendor systems. Wherever possible, data movement packages were automated for improve client workflow. The projects include:

  • Syntellis: Axiom (BAR Reconciliation/Cost Accounting)
  • Syntellis: Kauffman (AP/GL Reconciliation) AOIC (Integration for Radiology)
  • Vizient (clinical data)
  • NRC Health (custom survey)
  • Periodic reporting to HHS

The data export projects are running smoothly as Acmeware continues to assess and refine them for optimal efficiency. Culpeper continues to leverage their investment in the MEDITECH system to automate and achieve greater efficiencies from integration with third-party vendor systems.
