CMS recently published the FY 2024 Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) Proposed Rule which includes several proposed changes to the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program and Medicare Promoting Interoperability (PI) Program for eligible hospitals (EHs) and critical access hospitals (CAHs). Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program
CMS proposed numerous changes including the adoption of three new measures and the refinement of three existing measures.
New Measures
CMS proposes three new electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs) available for self-selection beginning with the CY 2025 reporting period/ FY 2027 payment determination.
Measure Modifications
CMS proposes to modify three current measures and the HCAHPS survey measure.
Removed Measures
CMS proposes to remove three measures.
Medicare Promoting Interoperability (PI) Program
CMS proposes that beginning with CY 2024, EHs and CAHs would be required to attest "yes" to having conducted an annual self-assessment of all nine SAFER Guides during the applicable calendar year.
CMS also proposes adoption of three new eCQMs for self-selection starting CY 2025: Hospital Harm, Pressure Injury eCQM; Hospital Harm, Acute Kidney Injury eCQM; and Excessive Radiation Dose or Inadequate Image Quality for Diagnostic CT in Adults eCQM.
